Playin' With the Queen of Hearts

St. Valentine's Day is coming, and that means it's the time of year when we focus on love. Whether you are part of a couple or looking for Mr. or Ms. Right, the foundation of having the relationship that you want is expecting nothing less than the best when it comes to love. When we work intentionally and decide not to settle, guess what? The Universe gives us the quality love that we are asking for.

One of the great magical tools for love in the Hoodoo Tradition, as well as many other magical traditions, is Queen Elizabeth Root. Queen Elizabeth Root, also known as Orris Root, is used as a strong love attractor with a definite feminine energy, meaning that this root is most effective for women but it can also be used quite effectively by feminine men.

Its power lies in giving women empowerment in disempowering situations and giving them courage and confidence. Confidence is one of the sexiest and most attractive qualities a person can have, and this root will have you oozing the sexy confidence of a queen - someone who will only accept the best. For my clients who come to me with relationship issues where confidence, self-love and belief in self are lacking, the first thing I prescribe is working with this powerful herbal ally.

For most of history where women got their power through marriage, this has meant creating relationships where the woman was empowered. However, women can use this root to empower themselves in career and in relationships with family and friends as well.

Queen E, as I like to call it, is the root of the Iris plant. This beautiful scented root (it has the aroma of delicate violets) is used in natural cosmetics and comes in several forms - whole, cut and sifted (a chopped chunky version), powdered and as Queen Elizabeth Root oil. Each of these has their special use:

Whole - Use a whole Queen Elizabeth Root as an talisman, ingredient in a mojo bag, to create a pendulum or as an altar piece.

Cut and Sifted - Use as an ingredient in a mojo bag, sprinkle around a candle spell for love or empowerment.

Powder - Use as a sachet powder on the body or on an object, roll spell candles in the powder.

Oil - Apply the oil to yourself or your candles in an upward motion, apply to an object to make it a powerful talisman.

I’ve got a really helpful video up that not only gives a Queen Elizabeth candle spell for empowering women but also shows how to use each form of Queen Elizabeth Root.
